Progress against the six objectives
Increasing community pride and participation
Steering committee
Hastings Neighbourhood Renewal Steering committee is made up of 50% residents and is meeting monthly.
Renovation of the Community Centre
Renovations have begun at an old community gymnasium. One section is already complete and is being used as the Neighbourhood Renewal Hub. Working in partnership with Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, we anticipate that the rest of the large facility will eventually be renovated into a community centre and sport and recreation venue.
Improving employment, learning and local economic activity
Employment Support Initiatives
Neighbourhood Renewal's Employment Support Initiative is linking residents with jobs, particularly in areas of skill shortage. In 2006/07 the Employment Support Initiative will help nine Hastings residents into employment.
Enhancing housing and the environment
Housing works
In 2006/07 Neighbourhood Renewal has allocated more than $1.2 million to fund upgrades and immediate improvements to approximately 90 properties.
Kings Creek Initiative
Neighbourhood Renewal is working with Melbourne Water and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to clean up the creek and educate the community about local flora and fauna. The project will link with the Council's plan to develop walking paths in the area.
Improving personal safety and reducing crime
Working with local Police
Hastings Neighbourhood Renewal is working with the Police to increase police accessibility in the area. Police representatives have attended the Neighbourhood Renewal Steering Committee and they are sitting on newly developed community safety working groups.
Promoting health and wellbeing
You Can Do It program
Neighbourhood Renewal has contributed $1000 to fund this program, which is building self-awareness and self-esteem in young people. Members of the community are being trained to deliver the program.
Increasing access to services and improving government responsiveness
Best start and Communities That Care
Neighbourhood Renewal is working locally with Best Start and Communities That Care, to maximise the impact of each project.
